What about the tasting of Normandy specialties?
Normandy is an incredibly rich region for gastronomy.
A very rich soil :
The soil in Normandy provides a lot of minerals to the vegetation and crops.
The farmers grow cereals and food for the cattle : wheat, corn, beets, canola, flax, barley are the main ones.
A lot of different vegetables are grown as well : carrots, leeks, potatoes, mushrooms, cabbages…
But the most important and famous production are apples. Theses apples can be transformed into apple cider (our apple cider is fermented), apple brandy (“Calvados” in French) or apple wine (“Pommeau” in French).
In our local “pâtisseries” you will be able to try our famous and delicious Normandy apple tart, baked with a little drop of apple brandy in it.
The cattle :
Our cattle is doing very well in Normandy, especially cows. We even have our local cows in Normandy: their name is ‘the Normandy cow”. Normandy cows are good both for dairy and for meat.
Normandy is green all year round. The cows can graze fresh grass almost all year round. Their milk is very fat and very tasty. One of the highlights of Normandy gastronomy are dairy products.
“Camembert” cheese was created in Normandy. Camembert is a little town to the South East of Normandy and this is where the famous Camembert cheese was created.
Seafood :
The English Channel provides a lot of different fishes, shellfishes or crustaceans. Scallops, mussels, oysters are growing in the best conditions. If you have the opportunity to have dinner in one of those fish restaurants along the coast, you won’t be disappointed !
